I have a 98 gs with an automatic tranny and 12,500 miles. I was thinking of a jsrc but am nervous about the reliability of my engine/tranny afterwards. My car is a daily driver and I do not race. I drive in nyc traffic daily and often in cold weather. I am very picky about my car and like it fairly smooth and quite. I am looking for a moderate power boost in the low end. Does anyone have experience with the jsrc in similar conditions? What's the greatest amount of miles anyone has with the jsrc? Are there any common problems? I would like to keep the car to about 120,000 miles without having to do all sorts of work on the engine.
Thanx.

For a 40% increase in power it's reliable. Make sure you get a GOOD EXPERIENCED HONDA mechanic to install it, preferably someone who has done the JRSC install before, and you'll be fine. All those who have had problems are because they are installed cheaply or poorly.
I don't know how the autotranny will take it, but I'm sure you'll be ok. This isn't a chevy, should take it with no problems.

I recently talked to folks at Reliable Automotive in Atlanta and they don't think that an automatic will last very long at all. They installed a JRSC in a LS auto and are waiting for the tranny to grenade and then replace it with a 5-speed. They seem to think the swap (auto to 5-speed) won't cost much more than a new auto.
Good luck

Well, if you wanna keep your car for a long time, don't go FI..that is my opinion(but dont listen to me, I have a 98 GS-R that I charged with 10,000 on the clock) I have put 8500 hard as shit miles on my car and she runs perfectly, except for the fact that I have destroyed my 3rd gear syncro, I think this could be a faulty part, but who knows, I have dragged the car twice...so that could be the problem, and I tend to miss a gear when driving hard(yeah, I can't drive worth shit), but I am getting my tranny rebuilt (EVIL GRIN) ....One thing about teg autos is they suck, my 94 LS is auto and it has a lot of problems with the tranny, likes to rev up and not go into gear(bad selenoid probably)....and the stock units are not built to take a lot of power....I always tell people that if they wish to have a good performer, never go the automatic route...doesnt work, unless you have a 427 Big Block, then it really doesnt matter! Happy boosting!

I've had the SC on for over a year now with close to 40,000 miles on it. Never had a check engine light associated with it and it starts everytime. Go to my page to read more about it. Please e-mail me if you have any questions.
